JDBCODBC Bridge driver

Hotovaga
Hi,
When I launch SQuirreL, it fails to connect to the the jdbcodbc bridge driver.
I get the following error message:

"java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: sun.jdbc.odbc.JDBCODBC.Driver
Could not find class sun.jdbc.odbc.JDBCODBC.Driver in neither the Java class path nor the Extra class path of the JDBC ODBC Bridge driver definition:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: sun.jdbc.odbc.JDBCODBC.Driver"

Can someone please help me?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Hotovaga,

Can you post the System attributes from the client?

Go to Help >> About >> System tab >> right-click Select All >> Copy Aligned

If you're using Java 8, the JDBC-ODBC driver was removed.

Hi Hotovaga,

The sun.jdbc.odbc.JDBCODBC.Driver class was removed from Java 8 so you'll need to find an alternative driver to connect to MS Access. I haven't personally encountered this problem, nor do I use Access, but you could try the driver offered by this site http://ucanaccess.sourceforge.net/site.html

Hope this helps.

hi buttcahes,
thank you, again for your attention to this matter I sincerely appreciate your willingness to help.
I checked the link you o]provided, but it only allows access to MS Access ("to read/write Microsoft Access databases.")
I use MS SQL, and they are different.
However, there is a link in microsoft site for downloading JDBC. Buy SquirreL requires JDBC ODBC Bridge,If I download JDBC from Microsoft site, will that do?
Thanks again.

JDBC is fine. There is no requirement that I am aware of for you to use
jdbc-odbc bridge.

Hi Hotovaga,

If you are using MS SQL Server, then Microsoft provide a recommended JDBC driver here

Squirrel *does not* require a JDBC/ODBC bridge to access MSSQL. Just
download the current MSSQL JDBC driver and use it directly. It works
perfectly, including encryption. I use it every day.
